Undergraduate Program in Communication Studies
As a student in the Department of Communication Studies, you will acquire the interpersonal and public communication skills needed for a career in business, education, or nonprofit organizations. You will develop proficiency in spoken communication in an academic program that provides flexibility and adaptability to a variety of professional contexts. Some Communication Studies majors go on to pursue advanced degrees as further preparation for professional or academic careers.
The Department of Communication Studies is small enough to provide outstanding graduate and undergraduate teaching, yet large enough to rank as one of the finest programs in the country. For example, in 2004, the Department was ranked first in the nation in research productivity among private University Master's level programs. Our faculty members are recognized professionals who incorporate research and real-world experience into every course they teach. As a result, Communication Studies faculty are among the most popular professors at TCU and frequent recipients of awards for outstanding teaching and student mentoring.
We offer two degree programs, a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Arts. The B.S. degree consists of 36 hours in the major and 12 hours in a minor. The B.A. consists of 27 semester hours in the major, 12 hours in a minor, and 6 hours of foreign language at the sophomore level. Both degree plans allow diligent students to complete a second major or second minor, if desired.
